Imre Bak and Roters Katharina

Our Gallery proudly presents the latest works of the Munkácsy and Kossuth prize awarded painter, Imre Bak.

As a stalwart member of the so-called Iparterv generation, his art was predominantly influenced by the new perspectives and tendencies introduced in 1968.

His painting overarches historical and cultural changes, equally bearing the influence of foreign and domestic tendencies, painting traditions and the latest artistic trends.

Bak’s latest paintings essentially define his distinctive style with his trademark space illusions, geometric forms and a new return to the lately neglected shadows to reveal exciting new spaces and emblematic signs.

Imre Bak, a former teacher of the Hungarian University of Applied Arts and the Berlin Summer Academy, is a Herder prize honoured painter, and a member of the Széchenyi Academy of Arts.

The exhibition also showcases works by Roters Katharina.

The painter from the middle generation studied painting in Germany at the University of Fine Arts, Düsseldorf before completing the Doctor of Liberal Arts program headed by Ilona Keserü at the University of Fine Arts, Pécs.

Roters was invited to group exhibitions to several recognised institutions including the Ernst Museum, the Gallery of Pécs, and the Ludwig Museum in Aachen. Roters’ art is abstract painting using vivid colouring. Her abstract signs, however, take different shapes and forms with different colours used for each cell, resulting in an overarching plasticity of the painting.
